Fire Dapostar
Fire Dapostar - star-shaped spinning cloth, flowstar with Kevlar fire wicks, Technora rope, no metal hardware. Approx. 3 min burn. 100% cotton fabric. 95 €.
Early Release
The dapostar has been around since the early 2000s, invented in Barcelona by Tai Dapero, spread through festivals between flow artists like a good secret. A fire version was always the obvious next step. The problem is that every fire dapostar we came across uses metal somewhere in the system, and metal near spinning fabric close to your hands means contact burns, not flame burns. So we spent some time working out how to build one without it, which is what this is: four Kevlar wicks, Technora connections throughout, no exposed metal anywhere near the fabric.
Construction
The four 100% Kevlar wicks sit 5 cm from the fabric, which is enough distance to keep the cotton body safe without changing the feel of the prop. The Technora lines are spliced directly into the dapostar at the corners so there's no lateral sliding and the balance stays consistent through every spin.
Between each wick and its Technora line there's a PTFE tube, which keeps the rope isolated from the fuel no matter how long you dip. The only metal on the whole prop is the central ring of the dapostar itself, which stays well away from the flames and doesn't heat up during use.
Burn time: approximately 3 min.
Usage Notes
A few things worth knowing before you light up. Dip the wicks only, not the Technora ropes, and keep it under 2 seconds — there's no need to soak them. A standard spin-off isn't really doable with this prop because of the fabric body, so use a rubber glove to squeeze out the excess fuel before lighting.
Too much fuel means drips on the cotton or fuel spraying outward when the spin picks up speed, neither of which is fun to deal with mid-performance.
Also, don't let a lit fire dapostar rest on the ground: 5 cm between the wicks and the fabric works great when it's spinning, not so much when it's sitting still on fire.

Fire Safety
Never soak longer than 1–2 seconds. If fuel drips from the wick, it's already too much. Even on the first burn
Never perform with fire alone: a dedicated safety assistant and a ready-to-use fire blanket are non-negotiable.
