Juggling fans are a strange little prop. Open, they're a wing. Closed, they're a stick. Thrown the right way, they come back to your hand like a boomerang that went to circus school. And if you've ever tried juggling with a regular folding fan, you know the sound it makes hitting the floor for the third time: a discreet little crack, followed by the end of that fan's career. These ones don't crack. Drop them, miss twenty catches in a row, drop them again: our juggling fans are unbreakable, which is exactly what you want from a prop you're going to drop a lot while learning.

We didn't build these. They were developed by Omertov, a juggler and circus clown trained at the Spanish National Circus School, who has spent more than twenty years performing and teaching around the world. He broke thousands of ordinary fans before deciding jugglers needed one designed for them. When someone does the job this seriously, we'd rather sell his work than reinvent it.

Omertov teaches a method where each fan is a bird, with a beak, an eye, a neck, wings and a tail. Every point is a grip, every grip gives a different movement. Once you know where the beak is, opening, closing, reversing and spinning your juggling fans stops being guesswork. As he puts it: "The fan is the bird. We are the wind that carries it."

Throw them open or closed, catch them from any point, pass them between several people for partner juggling or group choreography. They fold into a bag, and when the rehearsal room is melting in July, you're the one with air conditioning.
