We've tested and compared many Kevlar ropes on the market. 100% pure Kevlar by Play juggling is the most resistant, most absorbent, and most durable option.
Kevlar is a brand name for a para aramid fiber with excellent heat and abrasion resistance. Unlike ropes made from continuous fibers (filament yarn), Kevlar used for wicks is made from spun aramid (spun yarn): small fibers agglomerated together. This gives it high absorption, but low tensile strength.
There are two types of Kevlar on the market:
Fiberglass mix
Better temperature resistance in the fibers core · Heavier than Kevlar
100% Pure Kevlar
Much better abrasion resistance (drops) · Better absorption · More expensive fiber
For most props, the 100% pure Kevlar is way more durable. The more you drop your props, the bigger the difference. Of course, build quality remains a big factor for durability. It is really the best option to build fire poi, fire rope darts, palm torches, fire hoop wicks, and most of the fire props.
We compare all the time the different Kevlar wick ropes made on the market. Despite growing competition, the ones made in Europe remain way more durable and nice to work with. Kevlar Rope Size
We mostly use Kevlar rope in three main sizes:
6 mm
— Used for long braided wicks like Fire swords, Thai Staff and similar props. One sword uses between 10 m to 15 m of 6 mm Kevlar rope.10 mm
— Main size used for most of our props. Weight: 37 gr per meter. We use around 9 m to make a pair of Isis poi, and around 6 m to make a pair of small Monkey Fist poi.13 mm
— Used to make bigger Monkey Fists, bigger Isis Staff, etc... More resistant than the 10 mm due to its size. Ideal for rope dart heads and big fire props in general.Some props with the Kevlar Rope

You will need 6 m for a pair of 4-pass Monkey Fists
You will need 9 m for a pair of Isis poi (170–180 gr)
