A Technora tether for your fire poi. Works with any fire head, available with or without a handle, and drops straight in as a replacement for chains or beat-up Technora leashes.
Technora is a para-aramid synthetic fibre made by Teijin, same molecular family as Kevlar and Nomex. Flame resistant by nature: it doesn't melt, it self-extinguishes the moment it leaves a flame, and thermal decomposition doesn't even start below 500°C. This rope isn't built to survive near fire. It's built to go through it.
One rule of care, and it's actually not that complicated: don't leave your Technora tether sitting stationary in the flame for more than 15 to 20 seconds. Heat builds up fast without airflow. Keep moving, and there's nothing to worry about.

Single splice vs double splice
Technora attaches to itself through a Brummel splice. How much of the rope is buried into itself changes everything about how the tether moves.
Single splice
Only the attachment point is buried, over 15 to 20 cm. The rest of the tether stays as a single strand. Flexible, light, fluid. The right choice for flowers, weaves, isolations, body tracers, anything that asks for softness and flow. Feels close to a cotton or Smithy rope, only it won't burn through.
Double splice
The rope is folded back and buried along its full length. Stiffer, more directional, more intentional in the air. Better suited to throws, stalls and anything that needs a tether with a bit of opinion about where it's going.
Durability is identical either way. The 15 to 20 cm around the wicks are built the same regardless of splice type, and that's the zone doing the real work.
Choose your thickness
Thicker rope means more material between the flame and the splice. Match the diameter to the weight of your heads.
6 mm / 7 mm
Small heads, up to 150 gr. Lightweight, minimal bulk, maximum fluidity. The slimmest option still handles the heat just fine.
8 mm / 9 mm
Medium heads, 150 gr to 200 gr. The most common choice by a clear margin. Solid heat protection, comfortable in the hand, works with the vast majority of setups out there.
12 mm
200 gr and above. Maximum thermal buffer, very substantial feel. Worth knowing: at this diameter, many spinners end up moving to our 10 mm Static Kevlar rope instead, which offers similar protection with noticeably better directional response.
Handle Choice
PX3 by PLAY — Classic, simple, adjustable weight. 7 gr
The most basic and efficient knob.
With ropes up to 10 mm, there is enough space to secure the rope with a simple knot, allowing you to adjust the total length yourself if needed.
Washers can be added to increase weight, add a note if needed (1 washer = 3 gr).
Pom Grips by LanternSmith — Soft rubber, ergonomic. 16 gr
A refined version of the PX3. Slightly heavier and more grippy, with a very pleasant texture in the hand.
Perfect for small hands and 2 poi in 1 hand work.
Careful: they don't like long exposure to fuel. If left in contact with fuel-soaked heads, they may absorb fuel and become unusable.
Silicone Knobs by PLAY — Trusted for 10+ years, excellent balance. 30 gr
Our best seller and often the favorite for poi juggling. Dense, very durable, very grippy, with great UV colors.
Careful: prolonged contact with fuel can damage them. If they swell or become squishy, stop using them and contact us.
Widmar XL (3D printed) — Extra squishy, super comfy. 10 gr
Very soft, flat-bottomed, perfect for 2 poi in 1 hand, they naturally catch each other and sit in place.
Not grippy at all, making releases very easy. Gentle on the wrists, even with high throws.
Fuel-resistant, tear-resistant, and heat-resistant, practically unbreakable. Weight can be adjusted with washers (1 washer = 5 gr).
LED Handles by UltraPoi — Colorful and rechargeable. 26 gr
Can NOT fit Technora 12 mm. Rechargeable. Multiple light patterns. Balanced weight and texture.

A bit of history
Technora tethers for fire poi were first tested by Lanternsmith, then picked up and spread by Dark Monk around 2014 to 2015. It moved through the community fast because it's obviously a better solution than chains.
Today spinners have a real range to choose from. Technora remains the reference for fluid movement, contact work, isolations, and anything where feel is the whole point. Static Kevlar rope is the natural next step for spinners into throws, who want a tether that gives back immediately: stiffer, more direct, more stable in the air. And chain is still an option if you're into unnecessary suffering.

Fire Safety
Soak 90% of the head, let the rest absorb naturally. Never soak longer than 2–3 seconds. If fuel drips from the wick, it's already too much. Even on the first burn.
Never let the poi burn without moving for more than 10–15 seconds. Technora can handle fire well while in movement.
Be careful if you have PomGrip, Silicone or LED handles. These can get damaged if kept together with your wicks. Fuel can transfer and degrade the handles permanently. Store your props in a dry place out of direct sunlight: UV slowly degrades the wicks.
Never perform with fire alone: a dedicated safety assistant and a ready-to-use fire blanket are non-negotiable.
