Iron powder is what creates golden sparks around your props during a fire show

Sold by weight

Iron powder is what creates golden sparks around your props during a fire show. In other words, it's what you reach for when you decide a flame on its own lacks ambition. Dust some onto your wicks and your fire gear starts throwing sparks in every direction: incandescent particles trailing behind your poi, your staff, your fans like a luminous wake. Hit your props together or against the ground and the effect goes full instant-fireworks. It's spectacular, it's beautiful, and it looks exactly like what you picture when you close your eyes and ask yourself how to make your show even more insane.

Our braided rope wicks can hold more powder thanks to the grooves and texture of the wick. For more explosive effects with a silver color, we also offer Titanium Powder.

How to use iron powder

Soak your wicks as usual with your fuel of choice. Then take a pinch of powder and scatter it over the wicks: as delicately as if you were dusting icing sugar over a cake you're about to burn. Hold a clean dry container underneath to catch the excess that doesn't stick to the Kevlar.

A word on your Kevlar

We'll stop joking for a second, because special effect powders can be hard on your wicks and you deserve to know what you're getting into.

When iron particles get trapped inside Kevlar fibers and heat up, they act like micro-embers right at the core of the wick. Kevlar starts degrading around 260 °C. Iron particles can create local hotspots well above that threshold. The result: with repeated use, you could lose a bit of your wicks' lifetime. There were never serious comparative studies on the topic, nor observed dramatic degradation. But logic says that more heat equals potential faster damages.

Our recommendations:

Use it in moderation. A light dusting is more than enough.

Save it for shows where you can charge extra for special effects, or for special occasions.

Don't try the effect for the first time in front of an audience: it can catch you off guard.

Don't use it every session. Your Kevlar will thank you.

Safety

Keep powder away from your eyes. Store dry, moisture can ruin it permanently. Never dip your soaked gear directly into the powder: the fuel will clump everything together and make a proper mess.

This product is intended for professional performers. Always handle fire with caution and in the presence of a person trained in fire safety.
