Monkey Fist Fire Contact Staff

Monkey Fist Fire Contact Staff

Fire contact staff with Monkey Fist Kevlar heads - perfect weight balance, large flame, long burn. Ideal for beginners and pros. From 165 €.

Our Contact Staff gives great feel. Each material matches your needs: balanced weight, long burn time, big flames

Our Contact Staff design feels absolutely amazing. Every material was selected to match your needs: perfect weight balance, long burn time, and large flame size. They have a pretty slow roll and do amazing work for beginners. It's almost a cheat code! Very precise and with the best grips available on the market, it feels like it sticks to you and knows the tricks already.

If you are more advanced or prefer a lighter and faster Contact Staff, we have the Isis version : Isis Fire Contact Staff
We have a new traning Contact Staff design, with silicone balls, it's extremely durable and affordable (you don't want to practice with your fire staffs - it makes you dirty and you may damage the wicks quickly) : Contact Staff - Silicone
And since we're at it, we also have a braided Contact Staff for training, custom made with the fancy colored ropes of your choice : Contact Staff - Braided

A very challenging prop to design, as we wanted a ball-shaped wick, making a massive flame, and still being relatively lightweight. The Monkey Fist wicks finally gave us the right mix:

Sizing

140 cm or 150 cm? As a general rule: if you're taller than 170 cm, go for 150 cm. If you are smaller than 170 cm, then a 140 cm staff is probably a good choice.

In the end, it also depends on personal preference. For horizontal plane tricks like matrix, it seems better to have a longer staff. For vertical tricks, like halo or angel rolls, a shorter staff can be good.

Grip Type

EPDM

Perfect for beginners

A soft and comfortable grip, quite squishy, and ideal in wet conditions. It will become grippier with time as it starts to degrade, it may then leave black marks after long use. It will last one to 2 years before having to be replaced. A solid option for beginners or those who like a grip that can slide in the hand and won't stick to your hair. Also a little more comfy and forgiving than other options, and the cheaper one!

OSCAR Grip

Premium yoga mat style

The ultimate yoga mat style grip. Yoga mat grips are the favorite of a lot of spinners, the right amount of gripping without being too much, super comfy, and comes in beautiful colors. The problem was they were not durable at all. But that day is over! Oscar, a British staff expert and professional prop maker, finally found the one we were all looking for : the super durable yoga mat grip. After over a year of testing, the grip is intact, showing almost no signs of wear, despite intensive use.

GOAT Grip

Indestructible · Super grippy

Ultra-durable and very grippy. Great for intense practice, it literally sticks to your skin and makes everything easier. Any contact moves become easier, it's almost like a cheat code. It can be harsh on sensitive skin and slippery in high humidity, and will add more weight in the middle of your staff, we don't recommend it for our 90 cm double staffs as it can mess up the balance.

On every staff : Silicone Tape

We use it to cover exposed metal near the flames, it is a key safety element. Touching hot metal by mistake won't be happening anymore with this special silicone. We use it on all our fire staffs. One of the golden safety rules of making fire props : as little exposed metal as possible. It can handle fire as long as it keeps moving. Leave it burning on the ground for more than 10 seconds and it will degrade quickly. In motion, heat dissipates better and the silicone can last many years.

Option : Silicone Flowers

Our silicone flowers help slow down the staff and improve control for contact moves. They add weight at the ends and can sit close to the flame without melting. They are not a necessity, and some purists will say you're better off learning without them.

The biggest challenge came from finding the right core to have the Monkey Fist sit well on the tube. It had to be perfectly centered to not alter the roll, and with the perfect size for the Kevlar wick to sit on it. Wooden balls were the perfect answer after we overcame the technical challenges. It took quite a few tries to find the right wood that can take many drops in the long run.

We can re-wick your old Contact Staff for half the price of a new one! Send it back to us or find us in the summer festivals (Phoenix, Roztoc, EJC, sometimes more).

We use 100% pure Kevlar — the most resistant and absorbent material for fire gear.

All our fire props are made by hand in our workshop in France! Our team of expert artisans can make pretty much anything you could think of.

Fire Safety

Soak 90% of the head, let the rest absorb naturally. Never soak longer than 2–3 seconds. If fuel drips from the wick, it's already too much. Even on the first burn.

Never let the staff burn without moving for more than 10–15 seconds. Silicone can handle fire well while in movement.

Never perform with fire alone: a dedicated safety assistant and a ready-to-use fire blanket are non-negotiable.
